Maharana Udai Singh must have certainly been captivated by the charm of this pristine lake, that he founded the city of Udaipur here by enlarging the lake. You would also find a mention of the lake in Rudyard Kipling’s Letters of Marque (1899 A.D.), wherein he says, “If the Venetian owned the Pichola Lake, he might say with justice, ‘See it and die’.”
