Ghoomar Dance Of RajasthanA traditional community dance of the Rajputs, performed by the women of the house; it gets its name from Ghoomar – the pirouetting which displays the spectacular colours of the flowing ghaghra (long skirt) of Rajasthan woman.
The dancers sway both clockwise and anticlockwise round an imaginary circle to convey the spirit of the auspicious occasion. Towards the climax, with the rising crescendo of the drum and music, the dancers separate into pairs and swirl their ghaghras. This dance is particular to the festivals of Gangaur and Teej.
